the administrative building for the district wittenberg is supposed to be a timeless construction of a symbolic nature for the surrounding area. the main effort after fulfilling the requirements of the space allocation plan was to embed the building within the landscape at the corner breitscheidstrasse /melanchthonstrasse. the urbanistic concept and the body of the structure blend in unconventionally but well with the existing listed buildings.

the constructional design of two u-shaped new building parts opens to the landscape and prevents the anticipation of the volume of the building as a whole. the viewer’s eye will not be able to focus on edges or big sized objects while looking at the outer side of the building. the building’s proportions derive from the existing listed structure units improving the whole site. the old town is located in the southern part of wittenberg. it can be reached by pedestrian walkways leading along the entrance of the historical building complex. this plaza connects the historical and new parts of the administrative building via the pedestrian zone with the old town. the place provides pedestrians with a beautiful view over the building complex and includes a fountain and various resting places. the main entrance zone connects the inside with the outside of the building so the visitors are directly given the impression of entering a building that is supposed to serve the citizens needs whilst being a part of the city’s architectural ensemble.
